Data Export Truncated without Warning

When I export data from Power BI to Excel it automatically gets truncated but does not warn me. Also it doesn't seem to export 150k rows as the limit suggests. Is there at least a way I can configure Power BI to warn me that the data I am exporting is exceeding the maximum limit? Please don't link me to the documentation regasrding limits I have already read this.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I guess you already know the export limit(30,000 row limit for data extractions to csv and a 150,000 row limit for data extractions to xlsx).

Currently there doesn't seem to be a way/work-around to warn the users when exporting exceeds the limit. These have been submitted as ideas.

As @collinq said, you can copy data as a way around for now.

You can vote for the below 2 ideas so that these can be probably taken care of in future updates:

1. Exceed export Limit: https://ideas.powerbi.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=9ce8bc4b-484e-4dba-b4e0-7cf49116c08f

2. Warn when exceeded: https://ideas.powerbi.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=65524e4f-dcd9-4f49-bf70-493aea70df52

Give a thumbs up if this post helped you in any way and mark this post as solution if it solved your query !!!

Hi @Anonymous ,

According to the documentation, Excel has a column width of 255 characters and a row height of 409 points.  Therefore, sometimes, the export will be truncated.  THere are also a number of items that are limited by available memory on the machine being used.  Also, depending on your configuration, Excel may be truncating the column width but you only have to expand it in the Excel column

As for the 150k limit, when you export you may need to select underlying data to get more of the rows you expect to export.  Also, there is a 10k limit when you copy instead of export, are you maybe doing it that way?

I would appreciate Kudos if my response was helpful. I would also appreciate it if you would Mark this As a Solution if it solved the problem. Thanks!
