I have several dashboard tiles where I am setting the tile to open in a new window via "Open custom link in the same tab?" = "No" in the tile details pane. However, when I click on the tile, it always opens the report in the same tab. Is there a trick to get the tile click to open in a new tab? (I've also tried to add "?target=_blank" to the end of the custom URL.
Thanks!
@rdeken What browser are you using? I just tested this in chrome and had no issues.
edit: Correction. It appears that it will open another tab if the custom link is not going to a Power BI page. External links will open a new tab, but I can reproduce your issue when setting the custom URL to any "internal" power bi page.
I'm using Chrome and Edge, and the custom link does point to a PowerBI report page. Essentially, I have KPI visuals on one report page and I want the tile click to navigate to the details page within the same PowerBI report.
@rdeken Ah. Here is what you can do. Create the KPI visual that you want to show on your dashboard on the page you want the KPI Tile to navigate to. Pin that Visual to the dashboard, then delete it from the page. The KPI visual will then navigate to the page you want.
Order of Operation:
Go to page you want the tile to navigate to
Create KPI Visual
Pin Visual to dashboard
Delete KPI Visual on report page
Yeah. I suppose I can do that, but that's not an ideal situation because my report is being updated and tweaked over time. Having to add and remove the tile for each iteration of the report would a serious pain.
Thanks for the suggestion.
@rdeken Worth a test... but you should be able to just upload any new reports/pages etc without it effecting the setup. Much the same way that you create a dashboard and re-upload the dataset - your dashboard should still work as long as you didn't delete the page. The KPI should continue to update data regardless of whether or not the original visual exists on the report page or not.
This should just be a one time thing.
Undersood and I agree. It would be a one-time thing, I'm sure. Just not expected nor ideal. I opened a case with product support to get more clarity.
thanks for the help!
@rdeken I have the same issue, I was wondering if there was any resolution for this problem?
I opened a support case with MIcrosoft on it, and the recommended resolution was to use Internet Explorer rather than Chrome or Edge. ;-(
