My customer is using O365 and we have a team that’s building PBI reports to track O365 consumption and usage to report back to customer management. At this point we are ONLY approved to use PowerBI Desktop and NOT PowerBI.Com as some of the data is sensitive and can reside ONLY OnPrem i.e. we don’t have approval to store these reports or data in the cloud.
Can someone provide guidance on how I can pull data from O365 into PowerBI desktop i.e. is it Rest APIs or PowerShell cmdlets?
Hi @GMK,
Which Office 365 data to you want to display in the report? Available Office 365 data sources in Power BI Desktop are SharePoint Online List and Microsoft Exchange Online. If you want to retrieve data from other Office 365 features except those two data sources, in my opinion, you would better create your own application and call the Office 365 API to export required data to Excel file, then in Power BI Desktop, get data from this Excel.

HI Qiuyun
Thanks and appreciate the response.
We would like to check licenses, exchange, sharepoint and lync usage report for now and hope to expand that later.
We would prefer to leverage any APIs that will enable us to programmatically access the usage data from the usage reports in the admin center.
Thanks in advance
