Creating a dataSource for SSAS 2008 R2

Hi,

My team and I are trying to create an Analysis Services Gateway Datasource in the PowerBI Service Portal pointing to a Microsoft Analysis Server version 2008 R2 (10.50.6560.0 ). Unfortunately, we are incapable of doing so. Our conclusion based on the error message is that the Gateway considers the version of the server as being outdated, and therefore denies the creation of the dataSource (we've tried with the most recent Gateway version, and few previous ones). However...

However, by reading the Microsoft documentation on this topic, we only see limitations that mention "live connections" not being supported by versions previous to 2014 ( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-ssas-multidimensional#considerations-... ). All other documentation and forum posts which mention version 2008 R2 offer responses and solutions that aren't specific to our problem.

Is there any hope for us to make this work? Perhaps we've overlooked some detail and we need to install a service pack on the server, or something of the sort? Immediate migration to a more recent Microsoft Analysis Server is not an option for the time being.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Alex

@alextouli I highly doubt that version is supported. Probably support only goes back to maybe around 2014. I would take that article as gospel.
