Hi,
Once you have published your excel workbook to powerbi through the Excel plugin. How does refresh work?
We are just trying to expirement the best way of rolling our data out.
TIA
@Anonymous
If you pin pivot tables onto dashboard via Power BI publisher for Excel, the pivot table is published as importd image.
To update the data, you have to do it in Excel with Pin Manager.
Power BI will not control the data refresh at all. You can even use Power BI publisher for Excel to pin data without any Gateway installed. So for your requirement, I suggest you directly "Get Data" from the Excel file, to generate a dataset.
Regards,
Hi Both,
Thanks for getting back to me.
The data is not pivot table but there is a pivot table that sits behind workbook. It seems to upload the excel document to Excel online. With regards to data refresh It recognises the databses I use in the workbook and gives me the opportunity to refresh. I have added the databases to the enterprise gate so will see if I can refresh that way.
Thanks
Chris
Not overly familiar with the Excel plugin, but this depends more on the source of the data and how you connect it to Power BI. For example, if you use a cloud-based data source for the data in your Excel file, then the cloud gateway will refresh the data. However, if you use an on-premises data source, then you will need to use an on-premises gateway. Would have to know more specifics about your data sources and how you are connecting or importing your Excel file to Power BI.
