Can't choose where to save reflex item when creating an alert in Power BI Service

I am trying to create an alert, but it auto-creates itself on "My Workspace" and I have no option to move it or to change it to another workspace. How to create it on a different workspace? Or change its location?
So far as I can see this is the only way to get an alert on some data on a Power BI report, and if creating the reflex item on the desired workspace, you just can't choose Power BI as a source.

Hi @dlopesc04

Could you please try the following link below and if that works for creating your alert?

Hey, just so you guys know: I was previously able to create a reflex item tied to a Power BI report on a shared workspace when Data Activator was in preview:

This seems to be a new limitation they have themselves introduced, I don't see the point of voting on an idea on something they have deliberately taken away.

Edit: I want to add that I don't care about alerts and whatnot, what interests me is the functionality to trigger a fabric item upon certain conditions being met (On a Power BI Report, not Dashboard).

Edit2: There actually is a way to choose, if you click on the ellipsis on the alert creation context menu, from there you can choose where the reflex item is saved:

You still can't move them, which is a problem with pretty much all items in this platform, for some reason.

Hi @dlopesc04

In Power BI, alerts are tied to dashboards and can only be created on tiles in "My Workspace", which is why you see them auto-created there with no option to move them. Currently, Power BI does not support setting up alerts directly in shared or premium workspaces. If you need an alert for a report in another workspace, one workaround is to pin a visual from that report to a dashboard in "My Workspace" and set an alert on it. However, if you require alerts at the workspace level, you can explore Power Automate to trigger notifications based on data conditions. Another alternative is using Microsoft Fabric Real-Time Analytics or Power BI Goals (Metrics), which offer more flexibility in alerting across workspaces. If Microsoft adds support for alerts in shared workspaces in the future, you may need to check for updates in Power BI’s feature releases.

Hi @dlopesc04,

Thank you for raising this question in the Microsoft fabric community.

Also, a big thank you to @GilbertQ for sharing the helpful link. That’s a great starting point!

To further clarify your concern:

When you create an alert from a Power BI visual, it automatically generates a Reflex item in "My Workspace".
Currently, there is no option to choose a different workspace during this auto-creation process, and moving the Reflex item to another workspace is not supported.

Workaround / Alternative Approach:

If you need the Reflex item to be in a specific workspace, here’s what you can do:

  1. Manually create a Reflex item in your desired Fabric workspace.
  2. Configure the Reflex trigger logic as per your needs.
(Note: This approach does not directly link to Power BI visual alerts, but it works for other event-driven triggers in Fabric.)

We understand that the ability to select a workspace for Power BI alert-based Reflex items would be valuable. We encourage you to submit an idea or vote for existing suggestions on the Power BI Ideas forum to help the product team prioritize this feature.

If this helps, then please Accept it as a solution and dropping a "Kudos" so other members can find it more easily.
Thank you.
