Can't add workspace user

Hello,

Experiencing first-time problem where when I attempt to add a user to a workspace, the circle spins for about 3 minutes and then gives the message below. This is an active user within the same tenant and also has viewer rights in another workspace. As a test, I created a new workspace and attempted to add the same user and it processed in a matter of seconds. I know Fabric workspaces have a limit of 1000 users but I'm only around 150. Workspace in question has F64 capacity. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • Hi Anonymous,

    Try below fixes:-

Check if User Already Exists (Hidden) - Workspace → Access → Search user

Also check in AD group memberships (If found → remove → wait 2–5 min → re-add)

    Add via Security Group

    1. Create Security Group in Azure AD
    2. Add user to group
    3. Add group to workspace

    Try Different Role First

Try adding as Member or Contributor and then downgrade the role to viewer

Try adding from Power BI browser instead of teams/fabric or Use Manage Access panel vs Share button

Remove a few users from group, wait for few minutes and try re-adding them

Try creating a new workspace (replicate Old one) and adding the user to that group

If you can't create a new workspace as it is a critical production workspace then raise a ticket with Microsoft with

    1. Workspace ID
    2. Timestamp
    3. User UPN

Thank you all for the suggestions. Unfortunately, none of them were successful. I opened a ticket with Microsoft. We walked through multiple troubleshooting methods but none of them worked. After about 2 weeks, I did a random attempt but this time it worked and has been working since. No one was ever able to provide an explanation for it wasn't working and then why it suddenly started working again.

Thanks again and sorry for the delayed update
