Ah, so what you are saying here is, with DirectQuery mode, I don't have the option to get either Read or Build permission, but I would need the authentication or credentials to access the data source?
I think I am starting to understand... these data, they are not in the workspace, it's in Azure DB and Dynamics 365... I guess that kinda make sense?
Hi All
Firstly Tutu_in_YYC thank you for your solution!
And @YoungLearning for your question,I would like to make some additions to the difference between import and dircet query.
1. Although the Import mode, you can freely use all the DAX functions for complex analysis, but has a size limit, more than 1GB It is recommended to use the Direct Query mode to connect, because Import is the data imported directly into the cache, and will generate a copy of the local memory has a little demand.
2. There are some DAX functions that are not available when connecting using the Direct Query mode. This is because there are some statements that cannot be query collapsed, which is different from the Import mode, thus limiting the creation of reports.
3. In the desktop to connect to the data source using Direct Query connection, the data are not retained locally, the main storage of metadata, query are dependent on the permissions and performance of external data sources.
What I have described earlier is only a small part of the difference between the two, the following document describes the difference between Import and Direct query in detail, I hope you will find it helpful.

If there is an existing semantic model using Import mode, these permissions will give you different option on how to interact with the semantic model:
1. Read permission - allow you to read data in the semantic model, you cannot build report
2. Build permission - allow you to build a new report based on the semantic model
In general situation, for semantic model with DirectQuery mode, you need access to the data source.
