I have a PBIX file which is using a local ODBC connection within an excel file. What is the best setup so that the odbc tables within the excel file can be auto refreshed before the PBIX refreshes on the service.
At the moment I am just working on the local desktop app but looking to publish the file and report online for auto refreshing
Power BI cannot cause Excel to autorefresh its internal connections.
Your best course of action is to get whatever Excel is doing and put it 100% into Power BI via Power Query and bypass Excel.
If you cannot do that, then you will need to visit the Excel forums and see how you can get an Excel file to open, automatically refresh, then save and close itself. I suspect you will need VBA for that to work.
DAX is for Analysis. Power Query is for Data Modeling
