App Workspaces and O365 groups

It was announced some time ago the plans to break the dependency between App Workspaces and O365 groups, but unfortunately it has not been yet implemented (even no planned date available). The problem is that in our organization O365 is not allowed, so the possibility to create App Workspaces have been disabled. This is causing a lot of complains from different customers.

Are there any updated plans to release this improvement?
