Hi All,
I have created a report using DirectQuery method and then have created a dashboard using a card visulaisation from the report. Added an alert to the dashboard tile but it's not getting triggered automatically. Alert gets triggered when i open the dashboard.
Appreciate some help over here!
Thanks,
Prabhat

Hi @Prabhat96 ,
An alert only sends when the data for that alert is refreshed. But, since this is direct query, If you are not refreshing the Direct Query report automatically, the only time that the data is queried is when the dashboard is opened. So, that part tracks with your comment. Therefore, I think taht if you schedule refreshes, you should be getting alerts.

Hi @Prabhat96
This is a known limitation with DirectQuery alerts only trigger when data changes are detected, but with DirectQuery, data is only fetched when the report or dashboard is actively viewed.
Even if your dataset is refreshing daily, the dashboard tile itself may not update unless a scheduled tile cache refresh is set up. That’s likely why the alert only fires when you open the dashboard.
Few options as well:
Set up a scheduled cache refresh in the dataset settings to keep the tile updated.
For real-time alerts, tools like Power Automate can monitor your data source and send notifications independently.
For long-term needs, consider Hybrid Tables to balance import and real-time data.
Your data needs a scheduled refresh if you want an automated alert. Switch to Import mode or set up an automated refresh for your direct query

Hi @collinq ,
The report is scheduled to refresh daily. However for a safer side, i have scheduled the page to refresh after every hour from "format report page"

Hi @v-saisrao-msft ,
The scheduled refresh is working fine and refreshes once a day
