View SQL database icons in capacities where SQL database has been enabled by an Admin

Hi,

Can somebody clarify what this means it is a consideration in the documentation:

  • View SQL database icons in capacities where SQL database has been enabled by an Admin, as long as they have at least read-only access to that capacity.

Thank you

Hello @sgenan

The statement refers to a specific feature and access level within Microsoft Fabric’s SQL database functionality. Here’s what it means:
1. SQL Database Icons Visibility:
• In Microsoft Fabric, when the SQL database feature is enabled for a specific capacity by an admin, SQL database-related icons (representing the database or its items) become visible to users who have access to that capacity. This visibility is tied to the administrative configuration of the SQL database feature in the capacity settings.

2. Access Requirements:
• Users do not need full permissions to view these icons. They only need read-only access to the capacity where the SQL database is enabled. Read-only access allows users to see and interact with certain elements of the SQL database without being able to modify or create new items.

3. Scenarios for Viewing Icons:
• Even if a user does not have permissions to create or manage SQL databases, they can still see existing SQL databases and their associated icons in shared workspaces or capacities, provided they have at least read-only permissions. This ensures transparency and accessibility for collaborative purposes
