Set-up data source in power bi report server

Hi,

In our company we want to set-up a deployment startegy, we have three Power bi report server environment (dev, test, prod) . we just use power bi desktop and  Power BI report server .

We will be using direct query sql server, my question is that we should set-up the  data source each time we change the environment. we use the powershell command Write-RsRestCatalogItem to upload the report.

I was wondering if there is a way that username and password of the sql db will be transmitted when the user publish from power bi desktop to power bi report server. and from the power bi report server to the different environment

Hi @OPB12 ,

This does not seem very feasible. The configuration information of the credentials is to ensure the security of the connection, especially for sql data sources connected in direct query mode.

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information and let me know immediately. Looking forward to your reply.

Best Regards,
Henry
