Problem with uploading of report from the Report Server

Hello!

Currently all reports on Report Server update fine. However, each time when someone start's Power BI Desktop and takes report from the server, the report on an ancient date is loaded. The server reboot hasn't solved the problem. Could you please let us know the way to solve this issue?

Power BI Desktop - version may 2019

Power BI Report Server - version may 2019

Thank you in advance!

This is just how PBI-SSRS works. When you upload a report it gets saved internally as 3 separate objects.

  1. The original file
  2. The report definition (visuals/data definition etc)
  3. The blocks of data themselves as a single data mashup blob

When you view a report, the report definition gets sent to your browser where a javascript application running in your browser "runs" the PowerBI report. The data mashup blob gets sent to a captive backend instance of SSAS on the server that can respond to the ad hoc queries you generate as you explore the data in the PBI visuals.

When you schedule a data refresh only the data mashup blob gets updated. There's no need to update anything else as all you are changing is the data.

the next person to view the rpeort gets the same definition and the latest version of the data mashup blob.

If you download the report to edit it, you get sent the original file (everything combined together so it will work in PBI Desktop). This hasn't had any data updates since it was uploaded and is thus often significantly out of date. You have to hit refresh in PBI Desktop to get this version to update its data and then save it back onto the server if you want a newer version.

So you always see "old" data when you download the report definition.
