Problem installing ODAC file for 32bit Report Builder

Hello,

I need help with resolving this error. I am installing Oracle database drivers for Report server and to be able to use the 32 bit report builder application.

I could not find the ODAC file 32 bit zip file in oracle website so I used the old downloaded file to install for another user from a shared drive.  The 64 Bit run successfully but the 32 bit gives this error. I will appreciate any help that can help solve this error.

Hi @mjsystemss,

Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Community Forum.

Pleaase follow below steps to resolve the error;

1. please download the latest 32-bit ODAC directly from Oracle’s official site:  https://www.oracle.com/database/technologies/dotnet-odacdeploy-downloads.html

2.Make sure the 32-bit ODAC path is listed before the 64-bit path in the PATH environment variable to avoid conflicts.

3.if you're using both 64-bit and 32-bit ODAC, there could be a conflict. Temporarily remove the 64-bit path from PATH or reorder it so the 32-bit ODAC path comes first.

4.Restart the server and test the Report Builder again.

Thanks! The problem was the tnsnames.ora file. It was not located in the file client path. I dragged the file to the path.

Thanks! This has been resolved. The Problem was that the Tnsnames.ora file was not in the client path. So I dragged the tnsnames.ora file into the path.

Hi @mjsystemss,

Thanks for reaching out in Microsoft Community Forum.

The error usually indicates an issue with Oracle's network configuration. Please follow below steps to resolve the error;

1. Make sure that the tnsnames.ora file is correctly configured and contains the necessary database alias and the file located in
C:\Oracle\product\<version>\client_1\network\admin

2.If using Instant Client, ensure that the TNS_ADMIN environment variable is set to the directory containing tnsnames.ora.
echo %TNS_ADMIN%

3.Make sure both Oracle client and ODAC are of the same architecture and plese Verify TNS_ADMIN Environment Variable and set it to correct directory containing tnsnames.ora.

Hello, Thanks for your feed back. I noticed that the file size is so small 32MB against the previous version of over 500MB.
In the past we run CMD prompt command to register odp.net but not mentioned anywhere in the steps.
Below are the screen shots from the steps different from the previous installation steps. A little confused on the file

Hi @mjsystemss,

Thanks for reaching out in Microsoft Community Forum.

It looks like the file size difference is due to the version or type of ODAC package you downloaded. The 32MB file might be a lighter version, which does not include all components like ODP.NET. Please follow below steps to install;

1. Make sure that the downloade the full ODAC package and not just a lightweight version, as this may explain the small file size (32MB). The full package should include all necessary components like ODP.NET.

2.If the installation doesn’t automatically register ODP.NET, the customer may need to manually register it using the CMD prompt with the following command:
C:\> gacutil -i "C:\path\to\ODP.NET.dll"

3.Please follow the official Oracle ODAC documentation for the correct installation steps, as the process may differ between versions.
