Power BI Report Server Upgrade: Issue: Process returned error: 0x800c0005

Hello,

Having come up against an error stopping me installing the January 2020 version of Poer BI Report Server on one server (for which I have posted a seperate question), I am trying it on a second server to see if I have the same issue.

I get further with the second server than the first but the install still failes, but this time with the message "Process returned error: 0x800c0005"

I have included further details of the logs below.

I am not finding much information on this error when I google it.

Hopefully this post will prove more fruitful.

Thanks

Despite being a different error message the resolution to this was the same as that for the post I raised at
https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/Power-BI-Report-Server-Upgrade-PowerBIReportServer-ex...

I include the details for that below for ease of reference.

........................................

I fixed this by upgrading the version of .Net Framework on the server.

Retrospectively I have found that requirements for the January 2020 version of Power BI Report Server specify v4.7

see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/system-requirements

This was not something mentioned on

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/upgrade

which I was using to apply the upgrade.

The server had v4.6.x.

I upgraded to v4.7.2.

The installation now completes without error

What pointed me to the version of .Net Framework as being the issue was that I tried the install on a server which had an even older version installed (4.5.x from memory).

Running the install on that produced a message to say the version was too old.

I guess for some reason the install exe could not work out the version installed on the server I was having the problem with.

The looks like an issue installing/updating the .Net framework on that machine.

Have you tried the steps suggested in this post
