Hi Everyone,
Good day!
Hope everyone is doing well.
We have SSRS report services where reports are published in SQL Server Reporting Services. Our plan is to migrate the SSRS from Report Services to Power BI Services. However, some reports don't use shared data. I have downloaded a report, opened it in Power BI Report Builder, and published the report to Power BI Services, and it is working fine.
However, we have many SSRS reports that use shared datasets available in the SQL Server Report Services. These reports have folder datasets and use the shared dataset. When I download these reports and open them in Power BI Report Builder, they do not connect to the server and shared datasets. I also tried deploying them in Power BI Services, but it shows an error stating that the report contains unsupported shared data sources.
Can anyone please help me understand how to deploy SSRS reports with shared datasets to Power BI Services? Is there any possibility to deploy the shared dataset to Power BI Services? Please suggest.

Required Tools:
Microsoft Report Builder
Power BI Report Builder
In my case, we use shared datasets for reports. However, shared datasets are not supported in Power BI Report Builder reports when deploying them in Power BI Service.
Steps I Followed:
Step 1:
I downloaded the report and opened it in Power BI Report Builder. Then, I configured the data sources.
Since shared datasets are not supported, I had to convert them into embedded datasets, as Power BI Report Builder supports only embedded datasets.
Step 2:
Using Microsoft Report Builder, I clicked on the dataset and selected "Edit." This opened the dataset in Microsoft Report Builder.
In my case, the dataset used an Analysis Services MDX query. I located the query and copied it.
Step 3:
I reopened the report in Power BI Report Builder. Then, I right-clicked on the dataset, opened its properties, pasted the MDX query, and validated it. The query was successfully converted into an embedded dataset.
After running the report, it worked as expected.
Finally, I published the report in Power BI Service, connected the gateways, and mapped the data sources. Now, it is working fine.
Hi, @BharathM
For migrating paginated reports from SSRS to Power BI Service, we recommend that you use the official RDL Migration tool.
The RDL migration tool automatically converts shared datasets and data sources to embedded datasets and data sources, as long as they use supported datasets and data sources.

You would need to create gateway clusters and on the gateway create connections to your on-prem data sources.
