Is REST API release is in Beta?

I was using reportservice2010.asmx for power Bi report server. but after upgrading the latest version i found that some service call is not working like get report datasource. So before moving to the new API calls i want to know the following questions. 

1. Is REST API release is in Beta?
2. Is REST API is a replacement of reportservice2010.asmx ? Or will be additional/compliment to reportservice2010.asmx?
3. Any plan to retire reportservice2010.asmx ?
4. Finally, any indication of why Microsoft is moving to REST. May be due to industry trend but might be something else.

Please help me on this.

As far as as I know, Power BI report server isn't beta now. For more information, you can refer to this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/rest-api. 

Regarding another three questions, maybe PG team have some information @riccardomuti@mgmeyer?
