Hello,
I have configured a distributed environment with following servers :
- serv1 in VLAN1 for PowerBI Report Server
- serv2 in VLAN2 for SSAS Tabular
- serv3 in VLAN3 for DB SQL Server
When Connecting to PBI Dasboard from an external browser, I set the connectin string to Data Source=servername:portnumber;Initial
If I set the connection string to : Data Source=ALIASName:portnumber;Initial , connection will fail and got that I should configure Kerberos!
Is there any limitation please about putting alias name instead of explicit servename?
Any help will be appreciated.
Best Regards,
Asma
You need to configure Kerberos which involves setting SPNs for your service accounts running Report Server, SQL and SSAS, configuring delegation between the RS and other accounts, then updating the Report Server config to support NTLM.
Here's the official guide:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/configure-kerberos-powerbi-reports
I have configured kerberos . Still not working!
Do I need to add SPN with the alias name also?
I have just configured SPN with only for servername.
Thanks a lot.
Asma
Good question, not too sure on that. Can you trying setting the spn on the alias and seeing if that works? Would be good to feedback to the forum!
Just to double check, have you added an SPN for both the FQDN and NetBIOS name?
Also are you using named instances on the SQL/SSAS side? (if so you need to add the instance name to the SPN)
I suspect you are going to have to configure Kereberos
Its not actually that hard, though you will need a friendly domain admin to setup the SPNs.
These two walk you through it
