Hello,
I'm trying to design a Governance Model in Power BI Report Server. It will be a while before my customer will be able to use Power BI Service and use Shared Datasets in the Service. Until such time, I'd like to know if you will add this functionality between Power BI Desktop and a Shared Dataset in Power BI Report Server?
Justification: Customers Chief Data Officer is in the process of digitally transforming all data silo's and trying to categorize, label, tag, and document all data sources. Instead of opening up a variety of SQL Server Databases to end user's ad-hoc discovery of transactional and OLAP Data to PowerBI Desktop. They wish to allow free discovery of file shares, sharepoint lists, web etc...but secure governance via Power BI Report Server Folders by-organization. Then be able to create a variety of Shared Datasets that meet the data requirements or the organization needing SQL Data, and then grant access to report development at the Shared Dataset level...thus giving them Governance at the CDO Level. Then the Data Scientist can gain better insights to how data is being used by-shared-dataset, and not having to endlessly contact Operations with endless requests for database access. Granting Ad-hoc access to SQL Databases in production is a very laborious process, requires a difficult request process, approval signatures, and takes time away from the DBA's operational support, to manage these account requests.

Hello RhinoDBA!
We have introduced the ability to consume Report Server Shared Data Set from a pbix report published to the server, the scenario is described in the link below:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/access-dataset-odata
Is this what you are trying to achieve?
Thanks
