Hi all,
We are trying to connect to AWS Athena tables using Power BI Desktop (RS version) using Simba drivers. The dashboard refreshes fine on Power BI Desktop. But when published to Report Server May 2023 there is no option to configure the data sources and the report doesn't open or refresh on report server.
Can we know why this feature works on Power BI Service with a Gateway but not on Report Server with a DSN?
Thanks,
Anil Kumar
Thank you, @d_gosbell
But I am wondering why would the web application prevent from communicating the AWS instance where as the Gateway allows.

Because Report Server cannot use Gateways, the data sources are registered centrally in the Power BI service and Report Server is built to work without a connection to any cloud service
ODBC is documented here as not supported for DirectQuery on Report Server Power BI report data sources in Power BI Report Server - Power BI | Microsoft Learn . You would either have to import the data or put your report on the cloud service.
