year to date sales exel data updating

Hello,

We are trying to create visuals for year to date product sales data to compare the current year sales to previous years. We have our accounting software export to excel the year to date sales data for each year for the last 4 years.  We are able to set up the visuals to compare sales by product name. However, when we overwrite the excel file the next day with the new data file exported from the accounting software and try to refresh the data in Power BI, we get an error about not recognizing the file or it doesnt exist, something like that.

I am guessing you are not able to just overwrite an excel file with a new one even though it is named the same? What are the options to import the year to date sales data for each new day? Keep in mind some of the days will have new products that did not exist in the previous days excel file.

Thanks!

Hi @kchekosky ,

Please check if this excel file has the same columns/column headers with the previous version.

And you could share the screenshot of the error here to make your question more clear.

Hi @kchekosky

Overwriting the file (keeping the same name) and refreshing afterwards should not cause any problem. Can you show the exact error message you are getting? Perhaps the structure of the tables (or something else) after the overwriting is different from what you had at the beginning? More details, like the exact error message you are getting, or examples of the file you are reading before and after the overwrite would be helpful to determine the cause of the error. Perhaps the M code of your queries too.

Please mark the question solved when done and consider giving kudos if posts are helpful.

Hi @kchekosky ,

I believe you need to use Folder connection, append all the tables and work on the visuals.
