semantic layer in Power BI

We currently work in a Business Objects environment looking for ways to improve/enhance our reporting toolkit.

there was hardly any information around about this topic, but is there something similar to the universes i BO for Power BI to use, ie. a form of semantic layer? I recently heard that use of BO universes are no longer supported in Power BI?

Best regards, Alex Dinkelspelt

@accsel,

What specific features would you like to get in Power BI? There are some ideas about semantic layer in the following links, please vote them up.

Thanks for the reply, what we´re looking for is if there already are some sort of semantic layer implemented in Power BI, ie. something in between database and the report that allows any kind of modification/ alterations to field without the need of alter the database itself? Or is it true that there is only a direct connection between an Oracle database and a report right now?

Thank you!

@accsel,

In Power BI Desktop, you are able to add new fields via creating calculated column based on existing data, and you can rename fields.

Also you are able to use DirectQuery mode to connect to Oracle in Power BI Desktop.
