Hi,
i need guidance / help in Power BI for the following scenerio
1) There is one excel File with Name "Item List", which is being used as one of the referecne point once or multiple times.
2) there are other multiple Excel Files with different Name "BOM1", "BOM2" etc. and each of this file needs to be transformed and thus a series of the ETL actions are performed on each of the file
3) all the "BOM1", "BOM2" excel files shall be combined w.r.t to the "Iem List" file .
the Problem is as per following:
1) How can i import all the files from a folder to the Power query maintaining the each file seperately. i do not want to import files individually one by one but rather import from the folder.
2) If the original file ( any file "Item List", "BOM1", "BOM2" )is replaced with the new one(s), Keeping the file name same and all the columns names are also same ( as it is derived from same system but with updated data), will the resultant file ( which is generated after combining/merging/grouping the all the excel files "Item List", "BOM1", "BOM2") be acquired after doing "referesh". i mean will all the ETL Steps which were applied to the original file will be automatically applied to the new replaced file.
Please advise for solution to this.
Hi @agupta2481 ,
1. Please try:
In Power BI, go to the Home tab and click on Get Data. --> Select Folder and click on Connect. --> Browse to the folder containing your files and click OK. -->In the Combine Files window, click on Transform Data.
Each file will be imported as a separate query.
We can uncheck the loading of the original table.
For each table we need, reference the original table and rename it.
Then we can deepen the table by filtering the table name first.
Output. Next we can do some conversions on it.
2. Regarding your second question, if you replace the original files with new ones that have the same file names and column names, the ETL steps applied to the original files should be automatically applied to the new files when you refresh the data in Power BI. Just make sure the new files are in the same folder and have the same structure as the original files.
Best Regards,
Gao

How to get your questions answered quickly -- How to provide sample data in the Power BI Forum
Dear Mr. Gao,
Thanks for your reply and providing me with the solution.
for the 2nd Part: i have understood that the "replace the original files with new ones" will work.
for the 1st Part: i am afraid if i have not understood it properly/thoroughly, may one of the reason that i might have not explained it properly.
for the 1st Part, to re-explain the problem ( as i might not be able to explain properly due to lack of supporting files) , i have now arranged the refence excel files which can be downloaded from link https://we.tl/t-Aad0uHhf7C
the Goal is as per following
i hope with this i will be able to explain the issue and seek for the route/path to how to priceed in acquiring the final file.
Thansk for your Patience and Cooperation and look forward to have reply from you. 🙂
