from Excel to Sharepoint

Good morning, everyone,

I have a problem that I can't find a solution to on the forum, I hope you can help me.

I created a dataset in Excel to report on PBI Desktop.
In order to allow users to modify the data, I created a Sharepoint folder and put the Excel files online so that they can be modified.

I wanted to modify my data source via PBI Desktop to choose the Sharepoint folder and more precisely the online Excel as the source.

When I try, I get an error message telling me that I don't have access

screen.PNG

(Sorry for the french, it says "Access to the ressource if forbidden"

I don't understand, because I created the source, the Sharepoint, everything Smiley Embarassed

I have already thought of a workaround solution, which would be to create, via PBI Online, a dataset with the Sharepoint online Excel as a new source, but this would force me to redo all the reports...

If you guys have any tips or solution, i'd gladly hearing you Smiley Happy

Hi @Anonymous

Which connector do you choose?

In my test, i choose the "sharepoint folder",

if you are connecting to a sharepoint list, please choose "sharepoint online list" connector.

Clear the Permission the data source of SharePoint you used before under Edit Queries>> Data source setting>>Global Permissions>> find the sharepoint source >> Clear Permissions.

then re-connect to " https://***group.sharepoint.com/sites" with Power BI Desktop to see if it works.

Also test with the lastest version.

Hi @Anonymous

First make sure you can connect to a Sharepoint folder with Power BI Desktop.

You could follow this guide to check.

I make a test:

First connect to a local excel file (test 9.26.1) via "Excel" connector in Power BI Desktop, i get "Sheet1" in Power BI,

Then upload the folder Including excel files (test 9.26.1,test 9.26.2) to a Sharepoint document libray,

Next connect to the sharepoint folder as this guide in Power BI Desktop,

thus i get a "query1", in query1, i filter the imported data to get my desired file (test 9.26.2),

Open Advanced editor for query 1, copy the code, replace the code and paste it in the Advanced editor for "query1",

Cloase&&apply, the visual previously using columns from test 9.26.1 now uses columns from test 9.26.2, it works, not break.

This test need two files have the same data structure( same numbers of columns and same names of columns names).

Hello,

Unfortunately, I can't even go further than connecting the Power BI report to the Sharepoint, it stops at this point

screen3.PNG

the pop-up I crossed out a cross doesn't even appear, I'm stuck in the first step when trying to connect to SharePoint.

I tried with 2 different Microsoft accounts on 2 different SharePoint spaces but this doesn't change.

Hi @Anonymous

What is the detailed error message?

Could you tell me what url you enter?

(hide the private information, replace them with ****(some words explanation, like my site name)

Make sure the contents in SharePoint is available for users to acess,

In my test, the account log in Power BI is the same for Sharepoint.

Hi,

As you said, i deleted all permission, downloaded the last version (Sept.) and i have now this screen poping where I put the URL.

screen5.PNG

I'll try to connect with the 3 option (and deleting permission between each test) to see which one is the good one.

Thank for your previous answers, I'll edit this message when i'm done whith these tests.

EDIT : It works, deleting permission was the solution. I mark it as solved.

Thank you very much !
