desktop with azure dw publishing - no gateway

Hi,

I have built a simple power bi desktop file with only one connection to our azure dw using direct query.

When I publish it, I get the following error message: [...]we are unable to find a gateway[...]

Then on the web, it says: we don't support settings for this dataset.

I thought azure didn't need a gateway.

Can you plese help?

Hi @Anonymous,

In Power BI, DirectQuery connection to Azure SQL Data Warehouse doesn't require any gateway, see: Databases in the cloud.

Also based on my test in Power BI desktop version 2.42.4611.901, if only one query exists in the .pbix file connect to Azure SQL data Warehouse, it will not prompt us to configure a gateway when we click Publish button. See:

In your scenario, please check if only one query which points to the Azure SQL Data Warehouse in the .pbix. You can open Query Editor. Also please check if only one data source in this file like below:

Thanks @v-qiuyu-msft

My desktop version is the same as yours. The file has only query and one data source (the azure dw).

When I publish, I get this message:

Can you help?
