Write back to Salesforce SFDC

I was wondering if there is any way to write date back to SFDC. I found this article https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/embedding-a-power-bi-report-into-salesforce/ but I am looking for something more like the way you can use R to write back to a SQL DB.
