Redshift as a data source

Hi,

I created a report using data from Redshift (private cluster) using Direct Query. In Power BI Desktop everything is fine, the problem appeared after publishing to Power BI Service. I can't see the data in the visuals.

I followed the steps from here:

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/announcing-support-for-amazon-redshift-reports-in-the-power...

At the adding of the data source credentials I encountered the following error:

"Is the server running on host "prod-red**bleep**-.... " and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5439? "

Redshift is located inside a private subnet in AWS.How we can communicate with Power BI Service? We can't make the cluster public.

Can you please advise?

Looking forward to receive your responses,

Bianca Stratulat

Hi Cherry,

Thank you for taking the time to look at my issue. I looked at that solution but add an ODBC connection to Redshift is not actually a proper solution.PBI Gateway on premise does not support Redshift directly from the PowerBI Service  but Power BI Desktop allows Direct Query( I used this as guide : https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/announcing-support-for-amazon-redshift-reports-in-the-power... ,the last part is not working).

We will need to schedule a refresh and we will lose the performance given by Redshift(dealing with large amount of datasets ) and we will not have real time analytics.
