Please help! When I update spreadsheet in excel it's not updating data in report

If anyone could help that would be fantastic- I had a free trial of Power BI Pro and now I'm worried that without it my files won't update... 

I have an excel file saved on my desktop that I have been using as the data source for a report. In the past, if I made changes to the file and saved and then refreshed the data in Power BI, the data in my report would automatically be updated. That's not happening now. Is the issue that it needs to be saved to OneDrive? Or is the issue that I don't have access to Pro anymore? Please help! Thank you in advance,

Hi @mbenay,

When you refresh the dataset, is there any error throws out?

As the data source is local Excel file, the dataset need to be configured use gateway to refresh, please go to the dataset settings to see if used gateway is online.

By the way, construct change like add a new column in the Excel file, it will not able to be displayed after refresh dataset.
