Out of memory error when importing a table from SQL Server

Hi,

I'm using windows 8.1, have 8gb of ram and the 64 bit version of Power BI desktop. We have a large database of around 25gb. I'm only having trouble importing data from one table that contains XML data. This table contains around 700,000 rows. When importing, Power BI desktop is reporting that my PC is running out of memory.

Is there a way to import a set amount of rows from a database, like in batches?

Or would exporting the data into multiple CSV files from SQL server and then importing into Power BI desktop be a better idea?

Kind regards

Hi @Anonymous,

In your scenario, please try to use the DirectQuery mode instead of Import mode. Also please update the Power BI desktop version to the latest version 2.42.4611.482.
