Merge refreshes data from all nested tables

Hi,

I am using Power BI Pro. I have two tables in Power BI - A and B. I merged them using 'Merge Queries' into table C.

I then merge C and another table D into E.

E = C + D

C = A + B

When I make any changes to E, it refreshes the data from all the nested downstream tables.

  • It refreshes data in A.
  • It refreshes data in B.
  • It refreshes data in C.
  • As part of C, it refrehes data in A and B again.
  • Then it refreshes data in D.
  • It refreshes data in C again.
  • As part of C, it refreshes in A & B for the 3rd time.
  • Finally, it refreshes data in E.

The data in the tables is coming from a mix of SQL database, json and an REST api.

Each table contains around 50-70k rows.

The whole refreshes takes about 2-3 hours.

This is very annoying as everytime I make a small change to any of the tables, I have to wait for hours before I can make the next change.

Is it possible to set so it doesn't refresh the nested tables?

Hi @Nolock,

Thanks for the link.

Basically, the scope of Table.buffer is within the same table. If the table is called by another table, the original table will be refreshed. There is no way around it.

The Power BI team should look into it as it is increasing API/ database hits.
