Finding Net Waitlist Enrollment

Hi,

I'm a new user of PowerBI--no idea if the problem I'm battling is a Power Query issue or a DAX issue.

I was handed the world's most complicated spreadsheet and asked to create a PowerBI from it.  I've figured out most of the issues, but where I'm getting hung up is on the Net Waitlist.  Any help/insight for how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

We have multiple sections of a class (say English 101).  Some of these sections have seats available, some are full with no waitlist, some have a waitlist.  We can see by section which classes are which--but we want to by the course level (not by the individual section) if we have a postive or negative seat balance.  Calculating the net the way I would think we would do it (seats offered - seats needed (enrollment + waitlist) doesn't give me the correct numbers.  Importing this from the original spreadsheet doesn't work, as PowerBI doesn't recognize the formulas, and I'm at my wit's end.

Any ideas for what I might be missing?

Thanks,

Frustrated in Georgia

Hi @bustaphur ,

I see you say you want to view data at a certain level, you can refer to this feature:

Grouping or summarizing rows - Power Query | Microsoft Learn

For other needs, I don't quite understand yet. Could you please provide some dummy data and expected result?

Best Regards,

Stephen Tao
