Hi there,
I am still quite a newbie to Power BI and I believe that my issue would not be a big problem to most of you.
I connected to a sharepoint folder and successfully filtered for the files I would like to combine in Power Query.
But when I now close & apply this selection, these files are not combined. How do I do this?

You need to expand those files first. Usualy there is a little icon with two arrows heading away, if you click it, it lets you expand the data inside the files. Before the load you should see the real record lines in power bi, not the file details.
