My colleague and I work from different locations at different times but we both have access to the same PowerBI dataset and the same PowerBI desktop programs.
We can each link to the OLAP data through Excel form our locations but if either of us try to refresh the data in Excel from a different location than where the link was created then it will not refresh in Excel. We have to create a new PowerBI connection to the data from the secondary location and then export it to a connection file and the open up the properties of the connection and point to the new connection file to get data to refresh.
This is a huge pain because we alternate weeks at different locations. There has to be a way to make the PowerBi data links portal so we can improve productivity and stop wasting time fixing broken data links everytime we work remotely.
If there is a way to do this now, please let me know how. If not, please fix this issue which is a huge drawback to true collaboration.
@Eric,
What error message do you get when you refresh data in Excel?
Regards,
Lydia
