Authentication between SSAS and Power BI

The situation is as follow:

• Power BI needs to obtain the data from Analysis Service Server OLAP Cube
• Analysis Service Server is on-premises
• Analysis Service Server OLAP Cube connects to Power BI using Power BI Personal Gateway
• Analysis Service Server needs authentication for role and permission from on-premises AD Server
• AD server and Analysis Service Server are already in the same domain
• There is no Office 365 within the environment
• The AD has domain registered (for example, @example.com)

My question is as follows:

• If I do as follows will it works:
  • register for Office 365 Enterprise Trial and set the domain to be the same as on-premises (@example.com)
  • use the same username both on on-premises and Office 365 (both nancy@example.com, not nancy@example.onmicrosoft.com on Office 365)
  • Use NO Azure AD connect / DirSync
  • Use NO ADFS

Yes it would . As Far as the domain name on Micorsoft is same as the on premise domain .   The problem might come up if your on prem AD is @example .com in that case you could add an UPN suffix to the on Prem AD with the name example.com . 

Also it might be a better idea for use 'Enterprise Gateway' instead of personal gateway for OLAP cubes. The Only reason to use the personal gateway at this point is if you are connecting in the Import data mode and would need to schedule refresh in power BI for the same.
