virtualized data transfer instead of creating a copy of the data

Hello I was just wondering if there's a way to use sort of virtualized data transfer instead of creating a copy of the data on Azure. As far as I understand all explained ways in different Chats with Microsoft support include creating a copy of the file and moving to Azure to index it. Is there a way to index a file without moving a file from Google drive? Is Microsoft fabric allowing anything additional that could solve our problem by any chance? Question is regarding Connecting Google drive to Azure without GCP and without creating a copy of files. Confidential Files are in corporate Google drive and we don't want to create a copy. Any Azure plugin or fabric would help? Kind regards

HI @TomyTomy9876,

Accrodign to your description, I think Lakehouse shortcut or data warehouse mirror feature may be suitable for your requirement. (current these features seems not support the google drive datasource)

AFAIk, lakehouse has a preview feature to use Google Cloud Storage as source to create shortcut, you can try it if helps:

OneLake shortcuts - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

For mirror feature, currently it only supports Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos, snowflake as data source. Perhaps you can submit an idea to add support for more data sources.

Mirroring - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

Hi @TomyTomy9876  no I don't believe there's a way to connect to Google Drive using Azure, Fabric (or Power BI) and query in a virtualised mode.  All connectivity would be import only (making a copy of the data in Azure/Fabric/Power BI).  Fabric has support for shortcuts to Google Cloud Storage if that helps?
