Using the new task flow feature

Hi,

I'm trying to use the new task flow feature and I've two questions.

Is it possible to know which is the type of an existing task flow?
Is it possible to know who adds an item to a task?

Thanks

Hi @pmscorca

Thanks for using Microsoft Fabric Community.

In Microsoft Fabric, there aren't necessarily different predefined types of task flows. They are designed to be flexible for your specific needs. However, there isn't always a clear way to identify the type of an existing task flow from within the interface itself. Here are some ways to determine the type of an existing task flow:

  • Review the task names and connections: Look at the names of the tasks and how they are connected within the flow. This can give you clues about the overall goal of the task flow (e.g., data cleaning, transformation, analysis).
  • Check the assigned data items: See what data items (tables, views etc.) are assigned to each task. This might indicate the stage of the data pipeline the task flow represents (e.g., data ingestion, feature engineering).
  • Consult with the creator: If you didn't create the task flow yourself, the best way to determine its type is to ask the person who designed it. They can explain the purpose and intended use of the specific task flow.

While there isn't a built-in type designation, understanding these points should help you grasp the purpose of an existing task flow in Microsoft Fabric.

No, currently Microsoft Fabric task flows don't record information about who added a specific item to a task. This functionality isn't available in the preview version.

I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.

Thank you.

Hi,

for the creation of a task flow it is possible to select it from a list (general, medallion, lambda, ...). Once the task flow is created, it remains the name and description about the selected template, but these values could be changed. It could be useful maintaining the initial template used to create the task flow as a task flow type information, also if after the task flow is modified.
Let's think to a customer: a team could create a task flow, a person creates the task flow, another person adds one or more items for a task and so on; the task creatorn couldn't be contactable for any reasons and the other persons of the team could need to know the starting task flow.

Moreover, from the customer's point of view could be important to know who has added items to a task, beyond knowing the item owner.

Thanks

Hi @pmscorca

Apologies for the delay in response frmo my end.

Yes, while the current Microsoft Fabric task flows offer flexibility, there's room for improvement regarding tracking the origin and modifications. Currently, there's no built-in way to identify the initial template used after a task flow is created.

However, your suggestion is definitely valuable! We use customer feedback like yours to prioritize future features. The more users who request the ability to customize backgrounds, the higher it moves on our list.

Appreciate if you could share the feedback on our Microsoft Fabric Ideas. Which would be open for the user community to upvote & comment on. This allows our product teams to effectively prioritize your request against our existing feature backlog and gives insight into the potential impact of implementing the suggested feature.

I hope this information helps.

Thank you
