Hi ,
We have created multiple Direct Lake Semantic models in our Fabric workspace and shared it with many users.
The end users connect to these models using PBI Desktop, Excel and PBI reports.
Is there any way to capture the users accessing each of these semantic models. This will help us know which semantic models have very low usage and can be deprecated.
We have tried using "$System.discover_sessions" but this is not returning any data as Semantic Models are in "Direct Lake" mode.
Any suggestion / ideas on how to get this info ?
Hi
Still waiting for a resolution....
Hi @Binu
I have reached to the internal team for the help.
Got an update from the internal team.
"Connect the fabric workspace to Azure Log Analytics and then you can see all the usage of all semantic models in the workspace."
Thanks @frithjof_v for sharing the information.
Thank you.
Hi @Binu can you try using the usage metrics app? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-usage-metrics
Hi @Andy , The requirement is to capture the "Direct Lake Semantic Model" usage and not the PBI Report usage. The Semantic model can be accessed through multiple client tools like excel , PBI Desktop , SSMS etc. Users can connect to this semantic model and create reports in their own PBI worksapce as well. So we wanted to capture the info around how many users are connecting and using these Semantic Models ( regardless of the client tools they use )
Maybe you can use Azure Log Analytics?
(I don't have experience with it)
