Hi Fabric team,
I've connected my GitHub repository to Microsoft Fabric successfully under Workspace Settings > Git Integration. The connection shows my GitHub account and repository URL correctly. However, I’m unable to see or select any branches under "Connect Git repository and branch" — the dropdown is empty.
What I’ve Verified:
I can push code to the GitHub repository → I have Write access.
The repository has multiple active branches (e.g., develop, main, etc.).
I’ve logged out and reconnected my GitHub account from Fabric.
I’ve granted full repo scope access to Fabric during GitHub authentication.
The repository is private and part of a GitHub organization.
I’ve tested on different browsers and waited for the branch list to load — no change.
Additional Notes:
The Fabric Git Integration panel shows the repository but not the branches.
I suspect it might be related to Fabric Git integration preview limitations or a scoping issue with private org repositories.
Request:
Could you please help me understand why the branches are not being listed and how I can get them to appear in Fabric?
Thank you!

There is a solution which is a permission issue, Admin and Contirbutors only gets access to which branch to connect during Git integration.
Hi @burakkaragoz
I tried all the things which you mentioned but it seems the problem was on Fabric side, the permission issue.
Thanks for suggesting all options, really appreciate.

The solution provided has not worked, I am trying to solve with my team. One thing is for sure, it is some permission issue as the admin was able to access branches.
Hi, interesting issue. I have setup GitHub access just fine.
One thing I want to check though, are you using the cloud-based version of GitHub or GitHub Enterprise server?
Hi, I am using cloud-based version of Github.
Okay, I can see my branches fine when working with GitHub.
Have you tested recreating the Personal Access Tokens after the branches have been created in Microsoft Fabric?
Hi @paggarwal27 ,
Thanks for the detailed breakdown — super helpful.
This issue usually comes up when the GitHub repo is part of an organization and certain permissions or scopes are restricted, even if the initial connection looks successful.
Here are a few things to double-check:
Repo Access for Third-Party Apps
In your GitHub org settings, go to:
Settings > Third-party access > OAuth Apps
Make sure Microsoft Fabric has been explicitly authorized to access the repo. Sometimes org-level restrictions block branch metadata even if the repo is visible.
Branch Protection Rules
If your branches (like main, develop) have protection rules, Fabric might not be able to list them unless you have admin or elevated access.
Try with a Personal Repo
Just to isolate the issue — try connecting a personal GitHub repo (outside the org) to see if branches show up there. If they do, it’s likely an org-level permission issue.
Known Preview Limitation
Fabric Git integration is still in preview, and there are known limitations with private org repos — especially around branch visibility. Microsoft is actively working on improving this.
If none of the above helps, I’d recommend raising a support ticket with Microsoft and including the repo URL (or a masked version) and your org setup.
Let us know if you find a workaround — this could help others too.
