Hi @AB31
Microsoft has implemented a restriction that prevents accounts less than 90 days old from starting a Fabric Free Trial.
If you’re unable to start the Microsoft Fabric free trial—perhaps because your account is too new or your region isn’t supported—you can still practice and learn Fabric by enabling Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) billing through the Azure portal. Just sign into the Azure portal, search for “Microsoft Fabric” in the Marketplace, and follow the steps to create a Fabric capacity with PAYG. This lets you access all Fabric features and only pay for what you use, with costs starting from a small monthly amount depending on your chosen capacity. Once set up, you can create workspaces, experiment with data pipelines, lakehouses, and Power BI reports, and follow Microsoft’s tutorials to build your skills. This approach is flexible, lets you scale up or down as needed, and is a great alternative if the free trial isn’t available to you right now.

Hi @reubwork ,
Microsoft Fabric's Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) capacity allows for certain functionalities, but when working with Power BI items, you typically need an F64 or higher capacity.
F64 is the minimum starting point for dedicated Fabric capacity, and once it's set up, you can't scale it down.
For a minimum recommended capacity, it depends on the workloads you're planning to run. If you're designing an initial architecture, factors like lakehouses, warehouses, SQL databases, and Power BI integration all influence the required capacity. If you're looking for a general recommendation, an F64 or higher SKU is a solid starting point for Power BI workloads within Fabric.
You can try Fabric for free with a 60-day trial that gives you F64-level capacity. It’s the best way to explore features like Lakehouse, SQL Endpoint, and Power BI without any upfront cost.
After testing, you can either pay only for what you use or choose a reserved plan for discounts if your usage becomes steady.

Hi @AB31 ,
This happens a lot lately. Microsoft blocks Fabric Free Trial for accounts that are either too new (less than 90 days old) or from unsupported regions. That error message usually points to one of those two.
If you're just trying to learn and test things out, a good workaround is to use Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) via Azure. You can go to the Azure portal, search for "Microsoft Fabric" in the Marketplace, and spin up a small capacity. It’s not free, but the cost is low if you keep usage minimal.
Once that’s set up, you’ll be able to access all Fabric features like pipelines, lakehouses, and Power BI reports. It’s a solid way to get hands-on even if the free trial isn’t available.
Hope that helps you get started.
If my response resolved your query, kindly mark it as the Accepted Solution to assist others. Additionally, I would be grateful for a 'Kudos' if you found my response helpful.
hi @burakkaragoz
Thanks for this response and that's a good answer.
As far as I know, PAYG Fabric capacity will let you do some things.. but to work with Power BI items you need an F64 or higher capacity?
Is there a minimum capacity or architecture you'd recommend to support Power BI features?
Thanks for your answer.
I live in France. I think because I am too new, that why.
@AB31 ,
Thanks for the update. That makes sense — Microsoft usually blocks Fabric Free Trial for accounts that are both new and from certain regions. France should be supported, so once your account passes the 90-day mark, you might be able to activate it.
In the meantime, if you want to keep learning, the Pay-As-You-Go option via Azure is still a solid workaround.
