How to publish an AI Skill (Data Agent) inside a Power BI App in Microsoft Fabric?

I'm currently testing AI Skills (Data Agents) in Microsoft Fabric and would like to know if there's already a way to publish them inside a Power BI App, similar to how we do with reports and dashboards.

Right now, when creating or editing an App, the AI Skill doesn't appear in the list of available content to include.
Is this a limitation of the current public preview, or is there an alternative approach that allows end users to access the AI Skill from within the App experience?

I appreciate any help or suggestions!

Thanks in advance!

Hi @suricano,

Thanks for your thoughtful question and for exploring AI Skills (Data Agents) in Microsoft Fabric. Here I mentioned workaround that might be resolve the issue. Please have a look into it. And thanks to @burakkaragoz, for his inputs on this thread.

You're right as of now, AI Skills (Data Agents) cannot be added directly to a Power BI App like reports or dashboards. This is currently a limitation of the public preview phase, and the feature has not yet been included in the list of supported app content types.

That said, there are still a few supported workarounds you can use to make your AI Skill accessible to end users.

Add as a Navigation Link in the App: While you cannot embed the Data Agent into the App directly, you can include a link to it in the App’s navigation pane:

  • Open your Power BI App in edit mode.
  • Click "Add > Link" in the navigation settings.
  • Paste the URL of your published AI Skill and give it a name like “Ask the Data Agent”.

This allows your users to access it from within the App experience, just as they would other resources.

We expect broader integration support as Fabric matures, so keep an eye on upcoming releases via the Microsoft Fabric Roadmap

Hi @suricano ,

Great question — you're not alone in running into this. As of now, AI Skills (Data Agents) can't be directly published or surfaced inside a Power BI App like reports or dashboards. This is a known limitation in the current public preview phase of Microsoft Fabric.

That said, here are a couple of workarounds you might consider:

  1. Link to the AI Skill via a Button or URL
If your AI Skill is hosted in a workspace, you can grab its direct URL and embed it as a button or link inside a report or dashboard. Then publish that report to the App. It’s not native, but it gives users a way to access the skill from within the App experience.

  2. Use a Report as a Wrapper
You can create a simple Power BI report that explains or triggers the AI Skill (e.g., via parameters or linked actions), and include that report in the App. This way, the App acts as a launchpad.

  3. Monitor Fabric Updates
Microsoft is actively expanding App capabilities in Fabric. AI Skill integration is on the roadmap, so this might change soon. Keep an eye on the Fabric release notes for updates.

Let me know if you want help setting up one of these workarounds — happy to walk through it.
