As of January 16th morning we are unable to sync with git. Has anyone ever experienced this? I am unsure what triggered this but it is preventing us from syncing ANY workspace with git (not just one).
Solved! Go to Solution.
Been trying some options.
Eventually it works partly.
We had to disconnect the workspace from the DevOps.
Create a new branch in DevOps, delete all the folders and files from that branch.
Connect the branch to Fabric.
Then the sync worked again. Error seems to lie within the sync of the lakehouse resource. Thats the only one that is still failing and giving that error.
I encountered the same frustrating issue where my Fabric workspace stopped syncing with DevOps Git. After days of troubleshooting, I discovered a solution that might help others with the same problem.
When I tried to sync an existing branch to a new workspace, it worked perfectly. Similarly, syncing an existing workspace to a new empty branch also worked without any issues. However, linking the existing branch back to the existing workspace resulted in a sync failure.
After much investigation, I realized that some items were still linked to a data engineer who no longer worked at the company. To resolve this, I took ownership of all items linked to his name. Once I did this, the sync issue was resolved within a few minutes.
In my case, the problem was related to the ownership of items. Although I couldn't pinpoint exactly how the owner of an item affects the git branch, taking over ownership resolved the sync issue.
If you're experiencing similar problems, check if there are any items linked to former employees and take ownership of them.

Hi Mark, I can confirm this. After syncing to an empty branch, everything but the lakehouses worked.
We ran into the same problem. In our own Workspacces and in the ones on our customers site as well. Reconnecting didn't help. Nothing changed except that we are now not connected to any branch.
We have the same issue. Created a new branch, tried to link it to the main. But get the same error, the error refers to the technical error but I can't see any log.
@r_Gao We have started experiencing similar issues today (22/01/25) - 1 of our workspaces is fine but the others are getting the "Failed to load status" errors. Did you find a solution or did it resolve itself? Thanks
Hi Paul, im not sure what happened but it seems like it is working for us now. We didn't do anything in particular besides create a support request.
I did try creating a new workspace and connecting git there but got a different error (regarding a lakehouse sync issue), and it didn't fix our issue. But atleast it was a different issue, perhaps you could try that? This issue was resolved today as well for some reason
Thanks, it seems to be working again now without us doing anything. There is/was a known issue dated 22/01/25 with git and lakehouses: Known issue - Git operations and deployment pipelines don't work with lakehouses - Microsoft Fabric ...
Yes I was told they have rollbacked the change that caused this issue
Hi! I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting to the git repository using the UI and it does not resolve the situation unfortauntely
i tried creating two new branches (one through the ui and one through azure devops directly) and both resulted in the same error unfortunately
Hi @r_Gao
it appears that you’re experiencing a known issue with Microsoft Fabric’s Git integration. Some users have reported problems with syncing changes, particularly with notebooks. The issue seems to be intermittent, with some users able to sync changes for certain items but not others.
Please Disconnect and reconnect your workspace to the Git repository,it should resolve the issue.
please accept this solution if this is helpful.
thanks
Hi disconnect and reconnect your workspace to git repo doesn't work for me. Any other suggestion ?
