If you could give readers of a report or dashboard the opportunity to comment on the figures they see, it would add enormous value.

- nishalitNew MemberThanks everyone for your support and votes! We’re working on enabling commenting for dashboards and reports in the Power BI service in H1.
- PeterMilliganNew MemberThis would be a great feature for supporting action and senior management oversight. Let's say I'm responsible for a metric in my department. I see some bad numbers, react, and add commentary recording the details. When a senior manager is exploring and comes across the same bad numbers, they see my notes and know that it's being attended to.
- colin_kingNew MemberAgree, we would love to have this feature to gather management commentary against reports
- fbcideas_migusrNew MemberWe are often given this requirement. The most common is from the Finance department for 2 reasons, first is when they are working on closing the month and the numbers are unexpected due to incorrect data entry from operations that they need to correct. Second is when the closed month is not as expected and an explanation is needed for the management team. Linked to this is, whenever a report is shown containing the transactions that cause the blip, the report / dashboard would need a warning symbol to indicate that there is a comment against data within the report. Another less important requirement has been to search past comments for the details when something similar happens again and to find what the resolution was.
- minnaar_fourieNew MemberThis feature is what I believe will close the performance management loop missing from most BI platforms. Management meetings will be vastly improved if strategic KPI's are discussed and actions are agreed related to the performance noticed in the visual. As chair of this meeting I can then call up a list of actions and see how they related to past performance and then relate action to improved performance manifested on the visual in the following months. This is a closed loop management tool - which will be very valuable to a lot of people...
- djpirra1New MemberThis functionality would be a competitor killer! Hope it will be voted and implemented as fast as possible because this is a true advantage point and is required alot by the business.

- AnotherUsernameFrequent Visitor'+1000. Been asked today again if commenting on reports was possible - this would add so much value.
- schrumNew MemberThis would be huge, especially if comments on data points could be fed back to the data source and/or become a new data source correlated to the original data and in turn reportable in Power BI!
- hullterry1New MemberThinking it would be great to be able to preset a table for accepting the inputted fields. So the table has the fields to be recorded and then by using a function similar to drill through allows you to add input to fields with the other fields drawn from the table chart cell selected when opening the store commentary function. Ie chart shows sales variance to last year by customer by product category. You select customer ABC a category PENS. Variance $500. Then select store commentary a simple form is shown with the fields pre populated for customer product category variance $500. With non populated fields available for entering data text according to field properties. Reporting is based setting up reporting. Or an option to show matching comments. This way you should then be able to show the top x relative comments on report levels up from where the comments are stored.
