pbix as code

I have recently started using PowerBI as an embedded analytics tool for my company. I really like M and DAX - both are very powerful and tie together concepts from SQL and functional programming. Ultimately it seems like when I use PowerBI desktop, what is essentially made is a zip file containing metadata and data.

I am a developer, so as much as pointing and clicking is great for learning the concepts, I ultimately would love to just have a project with .m and .dax files (and whatever other metadata is necessary) that I can check into git, etc. Maintaining pbix files is a bit of a nightmare, and also behaves unlike any other code in our system.

Even one step further, being able to programmatically generate and synchronize data sets with the PowerBI api would really bring our integration to the next level.

Has anyone attempted to do this, or knows if this is even possible?

Hi @Anonymous

I've never tried it.  This article may give you some pointers on the structure of the PBIX files
