SupportsEncryption property

I'm working on a custom Power BI connector and encountered the SupportsEncryption property (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-query/handling-data-access). When set to true, it prompts a new window that allows users to choose whether they want their connection to be encrypted. However, this option appears to only work in Power BI Service. Could someone please provide more details on how this works for Power BI Desktop? I haven't been able to find any information about this. Thank you in advance.

HI @okramarenko,

Perhaps you can take a look at the following description about encryption connection if helps.

Encrypted Connection in Power Query ensures that data transferred between your data source and your Power Query client is encrypted for security purposes.

Keypoints of encryption connections:
Security: Encrypted connections help protect sensitive data during transmission. They prevent unauthorized access or interception of data by encrypting it using secure protocols.

Data Sources: Encrypted connections can be used with various data sources, including databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL), cloud services (e.g., Azure SQL Database), and other APIs.
Encryption Protocols: Power Query supports encryption using protocols such as TLS (Transport Layer Security). When you enable an encrypted connection, Power Query inovke secure channel with the data source using these protocols.
Authentication: Encrypted connections work alongside authentication methods (e.g., username/password, OAuth tokens). (the combination of encryption and authentication ensures data integrity and confidentiality)
Configuration: To use an encrypted connection, you typically need to specify the data source’s server name, database name, and authentication details. (Power Query will handles the encryption automatically)
