Hi All,
We have power BI reports currently sourced from spreadsheets on Sharepoint folder and have used the sharepoint folder connector which collates all the excels(common format) in that folder into a single table in power BI model.
Data refresh has started consuming more time as the data volume in spreadsheets have increased. So we were suggested for SSAS Model and have the tables (spreadsheet based) processed there.
But I found few limitations while working on SSAS modelling, the most important was (atleast for converting existing power BI model) - No Sharepoint folder equivalent.
Can anyone help confirm if SSAS/AAS supports folder concept as in Power BI, if yes, how ?
And is it worth spending efforts on SSAS model just for Faster refreshes ?.
Regards
Varshada
HI @Anonymous,
AFAIK, the SSAS connector seems not include the features that you mentioned. (Power bi is a reporting tool, it not suitable for these complex operations and they may cause performance issues)
In my opinion, I'd like to suggest to use data connector to get data. (do merge operations external)

Hi Xiaoxn,
Thanks for the inputs.
Just to be on the same page, the query is not with respect to SSAS Connector in Power BI, it is more on using SSAS for data modelling.
Could not pull Sharepoint folder in SSAS model as data source (seems a limitation) in SSDT.
Will still go through the doc provided to check if these optimizing techniques can help get away with modelling in SSAS.

HI @Anonymous,
I'd like to suggest you submit these requirement to 'idea' forum to improve these features.
