Oracle DirectQuery Error

Hello community,

I currently have an oracle database and our IT infrastructure department has set up an ODBC connector to access this database. This works fine. I chose ODBC from the list in PowerBI desktop and it pulls data as required. However, ODBC does not support DirectQuery and I have a requirement to construct a streaming (real-time) report.

I have all the necessary information on the oracle server.

HostName, Port, ServiceName, UserName and its Password. However, when i try to connect using the Oracle Database connector, it detects the server alright but when I enter the username and password, it gives the following error message:

I tried looking up the error ID and similar posts here in the community but couldn't find anything useful enough to help me find a solution.

Has anyone encountered this problem before/has a solution to this ?

Regards,

Dilip

Both on your desktop and on the gateway can you confirm that your dataset uses the native Oracle connector and not the ODBC connector? TNSNAMES.ORA needs to be up to date on both, in the right location etc.

Use TNSPing or Toad or whatever to validate the connection.

Thanks @lbendlin for your answer. It was indeed an issue with ODAC. I installed the latest version and confirmed the correct configuration of TNSNames.ORA and it works perfectly now.
