Multiple users accessing the same PowerBi report with different data sources?

Hi,

I'm creating a website with a PowerBI report embedded within it. It'll be accessed by different users and each user will upload an Excel document containing data unique to them (but in a standard format) and the report will display visualisations for that data.

Has anyone done anything like this in the past and can advise on how it's possible? I accept that I'll need to write a custom spreadsheet import routine on the site, but how would I reference this data source from the report?

The uploaded spreadsheets the users will import will all be in the same format, but obviously multiple users could be using the site at the same time, so the report they see needs to only display their data.

Can this be done?

Hey Nick,

what would I do in this case ->

  1. All the excel uploads are in one Folder
  2. You are querying/importing from that Folder to PowerBI
  3. In one column there should be an userinfo (see next step why)
  4. That userinfo can then be filtered. I don't know how you are handling the current userstate. In PowerBI Service (when Im not embedding) I use the USERPRINCIPALNAME Function to filter the data. In your case you could read through this documentation.

If this post was helpful may I ask you to mark it as solution and give it some kudos?

Have a nice day!

BR,
Josef
