Looking for a way to export image data from a Power BI table into an Excel file.

Hello, Dev!

Could you please suggest if there’s a way to export images into Excel instead of just their URLs? When I export a Power BI table to Excel, the image column only shows the URL and not the rendered image.

Secondly, is there any option to export the table directly into PDF from a Power BI report?

I’d appreciate any suggestions or guidance on this.

Thanks

Hi,
I review the respected solution, which partially works for me.
So, better is that I am doing the same stuff in Python.

Thanks,

Hi @KeshriNandan ,

Exporting image data from a Power BI table directly into an Excel file with rendered images requires a workaround, as the standard "Export data" function will only provide the image URLs. One effective method is to use Power Automate. You can create a flow triggered by a button in your Power BI report that reads the data, retrieves each image from its URL, and then populates an Excel file with the actual images. This provides an automated, one-click solution for end-users, though it does require some initial setup. Alternatively, if you have a Power BI Premium or Premium-Per-User license, you can use Power BI Paginated Reports. These are designed for creating pixel-perfect reports that can be exported to formats like Excel with full fidelity, meaning the images will be embedded directly in the cells when exported.

Exporting a table to a PDF from a Power BI report is a more direct process. Within the Power BI Service, you can open your report and use the Export menu to select the PDF option. This will generate a PDF file of your current report page, including any active filters or slicers. It is important to note that this feature captures a static image of the entire report page, not just an individual table. Therefore, you should arrange the table visual on the page exactly as you wish for it to appear in the final document. If your table has a scrollbar, only the visible rows will be included in the PDF, so you may need to adjust the visual's size to ensure all the desired data is captured.

Hi, for your first quesiton you may refer to this post.

Solved: Export images to Excel - Microsoft Fabric Community

By default, when you export a Power BI table to Excel, image columns only show the URL / Base64 string, not the rendered image. This is because Power BI stores image references as URLs or encoded strings, and Excel doesn’t automatically render them as images, but paginated reports allow embedding images and exporting them properly into Excel.

For the second question, Power BI supports exporting reports, but when exporting a Power BI report to PDF it exports the entire report page, not just the table. If you want to export just the table, from Power BI Service or Desktop you can export the table visual to Excel in csv format.
