Link to Power Bi with correct filters applied from my own webapp

Hello there.

I am building a webapp. Depending on the selection a user makes in my web app, I want to dynmaiclly generate a url to my power bi (either a report or app) so that the correct filters are applied (ie parameters are passsed into the url that I generate) and my user goes to the correct page in power bi.

Q1: Is it possible to pass parameters in a url to a Power bi report?

Q2: Is it possible to pass parameters in a url to a Power bi app?

Q3: If the answer to both Q1 and Q2 is yes, which is preferable to use, report or app?

Q3. The parametres I pass (eg "ControlID=5555"), do I have to have a ControlID slicer on the relevant page I'm linking too? Or can I just have ControlID as a filter on the page my generated url is pointing to?

Best wishes,

Michelle

Hello!

You can pass filters in the URL of reports/report pages, so you can define which filter to apply to each page. Filters you define in the report URL are applied to the standard Power BI filter bar. You can see more details of the possibilities in this link:

Filter a report using query string parameters in the URL - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Thank you @marcosvin, is it possible to do this for an App as well? Or just a report?

Hello!

Filters in apps are not available, only at report level.
